t: The 2025 Social Media Benchmarks report by Socialinsider highlights shifting engagement patterns across major platforms, revealing TikTok as the dominant force for organic interactions. While Instagram still drives significant reach, its engagement rate has declined by 28% year over year, now at 0.50%. TikTok, in contrast, maintains an industry-leading engagement rate of 2.50%, solidifying its position as the platform of choice for brands seeking high interaction. Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) continue to struggle, each reporting a 0.15% engagement rate.
The study, based on an analysis of 125 million posts, also shows TikTok users are more inclined to like and comment on content than their Instagram counterparts. TikTok posts average 3,092 likes and 66 comments, while Instagram posts receive 395 likes and 24 comments on average. Shares on TikTok have doubled, reinforcing its status as the most shareable platform.
Instagram’s impressions have increased by 13%, indicating the platform is favoring content visibility over deep engagement. Meanwhile, Facebook’s organic reach has declined, and X remains stagnant in user interaction. The study underscores the growing importance of adapting social strategies, particularly as platforms like TikTok face regulatory uncertainties.
To maximize engagement, brands must rethink content distribution. Instagram Reels and TikTok remain critical for audience interaction, while Facebook and X require a hybrid of organic and paid strategies to maintain visibility. The report also notes that brands are posting more on X (10+ posts per week) and Facebook (7 posts per week) while maintaining a lower frequency on TikTok (2 posts per week).
