LinkedIn Top-Cited Source for Professional Queries Across AI Search
LinkedIn has become the number one most-cited domain for professional queries across six major AI search platforms, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity, according to new research from Profound. On ChatGPT specifically, LinkedIn's domain rank roughly doubled between November 2025 and February 2026, jumping from around #11 to #5.
The bigger shift is in what's being cited. Posts, long-form articles, and newsletters—content created by individuals and companies on the platform—now account for about 35% of all LinkedIn citations within ChatGPT responses, up from 27% at the start of the period. Profile citations dropped sharply over the same window, suggesting AI models are increasingly pulling from LinkedIn's published content layer rather than just biographical data.
For financial services marketers, the implication is practical: the content your team publishes on LinkedIn is now part of how your brand shows up in AI-generated answers, and most competitors haven't adjusted their strategy to account for it yet. Profound's analysis suggests the window is still relatively uncrowded, but it won't stay that way.
