Nedbank Turns the Tables on the Vet Bill
Nedbank launched Pet Savings, a print campaign for the South African bank built around a behavioural insight: pets hide from the vet, their owners hide from the bill. The campaign photographs grown adults wedged into impossible places, above cupboards, behind couches, beneath beds, in the exact spots a frightened animal would choose, holding expressions of quiet, genuine dread at an expense they cannot afford.
The creative brief is grounded in a specific financial reality. Emergency veterinary costs are one of the most common reasons pet owners dip into savings they intended for other purposes, derailing plans and creating anxiety that standard budgeting rarely accounts for. Nedbank's savings products are positioned as a smarter alternative to that cycle, built for the unexpected rather than the planned.
The craft challenge was holding two things at once in every frame: absurdity and sincerity. The lighting and direction treat each ridiculous scenario with complete straight-faced conviction, which is what allows the humour to land without undercutting the serious message about saving for the unexpected. The campaign runs as a three-image print series.
Pet ownership and financial anxiety is a theme financial services brands have been exploring across markets. Nedbank's approach sits alongside campaigns like those we covered from the US credit union sector earlier this year, where brands have been finding fresh ways to make the emotional reality of financial pressure feel seen rather than lectured at.
