Event Replay: The AI Discovery Reset for Financial Services

Published on September 10, 2026

In this webinar hosted by Financial Narrative, Kishan Panpalia of Pepper walked senior marketing and communications leaders through what AI search means for financial services brands. The session was equal parts framework and field report, built for practitioners and focused on what is actionable now.

A decision has already been made

Before a customer gives any signal of intent, a machine is now doing the research, the comparison and the synthesis. By the time they visit your website, the shortlist may already be set. Data cited in the session showed 94 percent of consumers use an AI platform before making a considered purchase. The traffic loss many teams are monitoring is not the real problem. The influence loss happening upstream of it is.

Visibility, citability, retrievability

Three fundamentals determine AI performance, and they are infrastructure questions, not marketing metrics. Visibility asks whether machines can access your content at all. Citability asks whether it can be trusted enough to reference; vague positioning language provides nothing an AI can use, but concrete statistics, named experts and verifiable facts do. Retrievability asks whether the right passage can be pulled from a longer page, because AI does not read a 2,000-word article as a unit.

What AI rewards

The brands dominating AI citations in financial services are often not the institutions themselves but neutral aggregators that acknowledge alternatives and answer difficult questions directly. Intellectual honesty increases machine trust. Specific moves discussed: front-load every page so the answer appears in the first three paragraphs; invest in YouTube because machines read transcripts, not view counts; treat unlinked mentions as earned authority; and fan out every major prompt into sub-questions, because a single query triggers fifteen to eighteen in the model.

Measuring what matters

Referral traffic from AI platforms will consistently undercount AI's influence. A case study presented showed 6 percent AI attribution by referral analytics, while direct surveys of incoming leads showed 36 percent had discovered the brand through an AI recommendation. The right metrics are brand mentions, citations, sentiment and whether the brand is being recommended or merely mentioned.
