Report Finds Half of Women Fintech CMOs Lead AI Strategy
The Fletcher Group has released its fifth annual report on women marketing leaders in fintech, payments, and banking.
All of the CMOs interviewed for the 2026 Women CMOs in Fintech Report use AI in marketing operations, 75% report directly to the CEO, and none expect a budget cut.
Key findings include:
The CMO role continues to expand. Eighty-eight percent said their role grew in the past year, and half now lead their company’s AI strategy.
AI is built into daily operations. Every respondent uses AI for research and data analysis, and nearly 90 percent have built structured AI workflows.
Humans keep control of high-stakes work. Ninety-four percent will not let AI lead at least one area, most often compliance-sensitive communications.
AI search investment is growing. Sixty-nine percent are investing in AEO and GEO now, and all plan to increase GEO spending in 2027.
Budgets are rising and shifting. Seventy-five percent expect an increase in 2027, with money moving from paid search and display toward AI tools, brand, and curated events.
Teams are being redesigned. Fifty-six percent plan to add headcount, and new roles include GTM engineer and AEO specialist.
The full report covers AI maturity across marketing teams, changes in agency relationships, and how CMOs are approaching revenue attribution, with comments from leaders at Nium, Sunbit, Microblink, BCB Group, and others.
