McAlvany UFO Hook Hijacks NYT, WSJ
McAlvany Financial Group followed its “Wealth Insurance” push with a classified-style curveball in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal: “GET UFO ABDUCTION INSURANCE BEFORE THEY GET YOU,” plus a phone number and a tiny logo.
The lo-fi treatment, created with independent agency Fire Kite, was designed to pop in sober news environments and trigger calls. Dialers reached a short recorded message from CEO David McAlvany that pivots the joke into a straight explanation of wealth protection and the brand’s Gold IRA positioning.

The gambit reframes a heavy category with humor while keeping a measurable call-to-action at the center. The stunt extends the national campaign with a simple, scannable hook that’s hard to miss—and easy to measure without overexplaining the product in-ad.
