Santander UK Partners with Influencer to Highlight Deepfake Risks
Snapshot: Santander has launched a campaign to educate the public about deepfakes, using videos featuring influencer Mr Money Jar and Santander’s fraud lead Chris Ainsley.
The campaign aims to address the significant gap in awareness, with 53% of Britons unfamiliar with the term "deepfake" or misunderstanding it. Research shows only 17% of people feel confident in identifying deepfake videos.
The initiative highlights growing concerns over deepfake technology being used in scams, with 59% of Britons becoming more suspicious of what they see or hear. Ainsley warns of the potential for deepfakes to exacerbate existing fraud tactics. The videos and related content are distributed across social media to enhance public awareness and offer guidance on detecting these advanced scams.
Key Quote: “Generative AI is developing at breakneck speed, and we know it’s when rather than if we start to see an influx of scams with deepfakes lurking behind them.” Chris Ainsley, Head of Fraud Risk Management, Santander
