LinkedIn: AI Sparks Marketing Transformation, Human Creativity Still Leads
Snapshot: AI is reshaping the marketing landscape, but marketers themselves remain the industry’s most vital asset, according to LinkedIn’s Fall 2024 Global Marketing Jobs Outlook. While 91% of marketing professionals report job satisfaction, 72% feel overwhelmed by the rapid pace of change in their roles, largely driven by advances in AI technology.
Nearly 60% of marketers already use AI tools, integrating them into tasks like campaign automation, chatbots, and website optimization. Yet, even as AI becomes an indispensable part of marketing operations, the most sought-after skills are still rooted in human capabilities.
LinkedIn crowned “collaborative problem-solving” as its Skill of the Year, with mentions of this skill growing 138% on the platform since 2021. Other in-demand soft skills include creativity, relationship building, agility, teamwork, and emotional intelligence—qualities that machines cannot replicate.
Hiring trends underscore the enduring importance of creativity. The B2B Marketing Benchmark reveals that employers increasingly prioritize skills over formal education, with a preference for creative expertise. This approach is exemplified by Duolingo’s TikTok marketing success, where innovative campaigns led by marketer Zaria Parvez boosted audience engagement and secured her career advancement.
Technical skills aren’t being neglected, though. Creative execution, AI knowledge, and marketing technology rank as the top hard skills added to LinkedIn profiles between 2021 and 2023. As the industry adapts to generative AI, the focus is shifting toward blending technical expertise with human creativity to tackle tasks requiring judgment and innovation.
Key Quote: “AI may be revolutionizing how we approach marketing, but it can’t replicate the creativity and emotional intelligence that drive human connection—a cornerstone of effective marketing.” Tequia Burt, Editor in Chief, LinkedIn Collective
