Lloyds and Channel 4 Name 'Black in Business' Winners

Snapshot: Four UK-based Black-owned businesses have won Channel 4’s Black in Business 2024, securing £150,000 in TV advertising airtime and tailored mentoring.

Backed by Lloyds Banking Group, the initiative helps Black entrepreneurs scale through national exposure and expert guidance. This year saw 20 shortlisted businesses, with winners selected for their strong products, scalability, and market potential.

The winners will each receive free Channel 4 airtime starting in July and executive mentorship from Channel 4 and Lloyds. The program was launched after research showed that Black entrepreneurs face greater funding barriers, with 56% only receiving financing after proving successful, compared to 35% of white-owned businesses.

Elyn Corfield, CEO of Business and Commercial Banking at Lloyds, praised the winners' creativity and resilience. Christopher Remie, Commercial Development Lead at Channel 4 Sales, highlighted their strong market positioning and growth potential. The initiative underscores the role of TV advertising in helping Black-owned businesses break through financial and visibility challenges.

Key Quote: “We already support over 1 million British businesses at all stages of their journey, across the UK, so whether you’re planning to turn a side hustle into a viable business or looking to grow an existing one, our Black entrepreneurs programme is committed to supporting those ambitions and helping Britain prosper”.
