RHB Builds Festive Campaign Around Social Enterprise Founder
RHB Bank launched 'Dignity,' a Chinese New Year film that shifts the spotlight from material wealth to self-worth and purpose, telling the true story of Yap Sue Yii, co-founder and CEO of Komuniti Tukang Jahit. The social enterprise has empowered more than 800 women from Malaysia's B40 community through sewing skills and fair-income opportunities, helping them regain independence, confidence, and dignity.
The film uses the lotus flower as a recurring visual metaphor for resilience and new beginnings. Blooming from murky waters yet untouched by them, the lotus represents women whose lives have been reshaped through craftsmanship, proving that dignity is defined by belief rather than circumstance.
Abdul Sani, RHB's group chief marketing officer, said the campaign reflects the bank's purpose to "Make Progress Happen For Everyone" through empowerment rather than handouts. "Real progress happens when we uplift others, not by changing who they are, but by helping them rise with dignity," he said, calling Sue Yii and Komuniti Tukang Jahit "the very definition of what this purpose looks like in action."
On-ground engagements and community-driven initiatives are currently in development to extend the campaign beyond the screen.
