AMEX Adds Olivia Rodrigo to the 'Story of My Song' Mix
American Express released a new episode of its 'Story of My Song' video series this week, featuring Olivia Rodrigo working through the songwriting behind Honeybee, a track from her third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, released June 12.
The episode premiered exclusively through NYLON and runs 16 minutes, with Rodrigo annotating lyrics from an oversized legal pad and tracing individual lines back to their origins, including a reference to the 1999 film Notting Hill and an inside joke with producer Dan Nigro. It drops one week into the album cycle, as Rodrigo prepares for the Unraveled Tour opening in September.
The episode is the eighth in the series, which has run through Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, Kacey Musgraves, Teddy Swims, Brandi Carlile, Tate McRae, and Gracie Abrams since launch. Episodes are produced by Killian & Company, distributed through YouTube, TikTok, and the Amex newsroom, with several given to media partners for exclusive first release.
The series sits inside a broader music strategy Amex has been building since its 2024 Member When global campaign, which shifted brand communications toward emotional value and shared experiences. Over 60 percent of new card acquisitions in 2025 were Millennials and Gen Z, demographics for whom live music ranks as a high-engagement priority. Story of My Song operates alongside a larger infrastructure that includes a 20-plus-year AEG partnership covering Front of the Line presale access, venue naming rights at Crypto.com Arena, The O2, and Uber Arena, and presenting sponsorship of BST Hyde Park.
Several series artists have also anchored card member-exclusive live events, with Gracie Abrams headlining a members-only concert during Amex Member Week in March 2025 and Billie Eilish's episode running alongside an Amex tour partnership in autumn 2024.
