9.5 Million AI Citations Later, LinkedIn Shares New Rules for B2B Visibility

Published on July 23, 2026

Meltwater analyzed 9.5 million AI citations across six major models, including ChatGPT-5, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Claude, and Gemini, and found LinkedIn is the second most cited source for B2B queries globally, behind only YouTube.

The platform's citation share grew 26% during the four-week study period, with Google's AI showing the sharpest increase in how often it referenced LinkedIn content.

Individual member profiles account for 75% of all LinkedIn citations, compared to 25% for company pages. CEOs generate the most cited content at 8.2%, followed by founders at 7.5%, though the research notes expertise matters more than job title. LinkedIn receives roughly 11 times more B2B citations than Quora and ranks in the top five cited sources across technology, consulting, financial services, marketing, and HR.

On content structure, every top-cited article in the study used bulleted or numbered lists and 92% included clear headings. Listicles ranking tools or vendors account for 54% of the most cited content, with decision frameworks and product comparisons also performing strongly. Content containing specific names, pricing data, and statistics is substantially more likely to be cited than generic thought leadership.

On freshness, 72% of cited content is entirely original rather than reshared, and 48% was published within the last three months. Only 12% of cited material was older than one year.
