X Continues to Lose EU Users
Snapshot: X, formerly known as Twitter, is continuing to see user losses across Europe, according to new figures released under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).
The platform reported 25.5 million average monthly active users across the EU as of February 2025, down from 26 million six months earlier. This follows a broader trend of declining engagement since Elon Musk’s takeover in late 2022.
Notably, other social platforms — including LinkedIn and TikTok — reported growth over the same period, raising competitive challenges for X’s ad business.
Key points include:
-
Daily active users have dropped significantly, with signs of slowing advertiser interest.
-
Regulatory pressures under the DSA are likely to intensify scrutiny on platform practices.
-
Despite the decline, X remains above the 45 million EU user threshold that would trigger additional regulatory requirements.
-
Musk’s focus on paid features and subscription models hasn’t yet reversed the downward trend.
Marketers targeting European audiences may want to reassess their media mix, particularly as alternative platforms continue to gain traction.
