Nationwide’s ‘A.N.Y. Bank’ Returns With a Blimp and a Bite
Nationwide is celebrating a real award win by lampooning a fake one. The sixth instalment of its long-running ‘A.N.Y. Bank’ series sees Dominic West return as Hugo, the blustering CEO of a rival bank that prematurely throws a lavish party to celebrate winning the Which? Banking Brand of the Year award—only to find Nationwide actually took the prize. The spot, created by Mother, leans into escalating absurdity, complete with a band, branded shirts, and even a blimp, before assistant Danuj, played by Sunil Patel, delivers the bad news.
The humor underscores a serious point: Nationwide’s win comes from being a mutual, not a shareholder-driven institution. Director of brands and marketing Richard Warren said the campaign “celebrates that achievement in typically playful style” while reminding audiences why the brand’s structure matters. Creative director Dickie Connell called it “pure wish-fulfilment” for West’s ego-fueled character, contrasting his excess with Nationwide’s authenticity.
Running across cinema, TV, BVOD, and YouTube, the campaign extends Nationwide’s ongoing effort to spotlight what sets it apart—members first, always—with the confidence to have a little fun along the way.
