John McDonald becomes Global CMO at HSBC

HSBC has hired John McDonald as its new Global Chief Marketing Officer, based in London. He wrote on LinkedIn:

“My role at HSBC is a newly created global position, bringing together Brand and Marketing across all four of the bank’s core businesses. It’s a pivotal time to join — as HSBC reshapes itself to become simpler, more agile, and more focused on the needs of its clients. I can’t wait to contribute to that transformation and build on the incredible momentum my future colleagues around the world have already created. More to come. But for now, I’m very grateful for what has been — and thrilled for what the future holds.”

McDonald comes from UBS where he was Group Chief Marketing Officer. He also held roles at Mastercard, Digitas North America, WPP, British Airways, and OgilvyOne, and was Co-Founder of xCheck.

McDonald has a bachelor’s degree in British Politics and Legislative Studies from the University of Hull.
